A Quiet Spell
2025
A Quiet Spell is a collection of paintings made over the course of a year when I was trying to understand what was happening in my life and what I actually wanted from painting. I did not begin with a clear idea for the series. I worked on many paintings at once, followed what interested me, abandoned things that felt false, and slowly began to see connections between the work.
Some of the paintings draw from fantasy, mythology, religion, and old illustration; others come directly from my own life. They belong to the same world. Each became a way of approaching things I had difficulty saying plainly: uncertainty, loneliness, love, fear, and the desire to make something meaningful while knowing how little of life I can control.
A Quiet Spell is the record of that year and of what painting helped me see while I was living through it.
